HISTORY

The National emergency called under Smt. Indira Gandhi and the insurgency in the state of Mizoram led to the expulsion of all foreign Missionaries in the early 1970s.
St. Paul’s which was then, under the care of the Canadian Holy Cross brothers was also one amongst affected. It was then when His Excellency Denzil D’ Souza, the Bishop of Silchar invited the brothers of St. Gabriel to lend a helping hand. The Montfort brothers province of the South were asked to take up the mission in Mizoram.

On May 10, 1975, the Regional Council of South India decided to take charge of St. Paul’s High School, Aizawl and St. John’s High School, Kolasib. Brothers P.J Abraham, Devasy Madavana, K.V.Matthew , C.J.George, K.U. Matthew and Cyriac Pulickeel were chosen for the Mission in Mizoram.

On 4th June, 1975, Brother P.J.Abraham assisted by Brothers K.V.Matthew and C.J George accepted the responsibility from Father Joseph Chalil.

Brother P.J. Abraham serve as the headmaster for over a decade and set the tone and standard of the institution through his charisma, dynamism and complete devotion to God through education. He paid attention to the all round development of the students, insisted on healthy discipline and provided new school buildings and infrastructure. He also built a science laboratory.  St. Paul’s excelled in academics landing toppers and rank holders at the matriculate exams.

From 1986-1989, Brother P.J. Jose took charge of the post of the Headmaster and continued the traditions set up by Brother Abraham. Brother K.M. Thomas continued the charge of the Headmaster between the years 1989-1995.

From 1995-2001, Brother Jose Thekkedam was Superior and Headmaster. It was during his stewardship that St. Paul’s became a higher secondary school with science stream. In 1998, commerce stream was added and Computer was added as a main subject for all classes between 8 to 12. Brother Jose also started the Paulians Alumni association.Brother Jose returned as a Principal of St. Paul’s in 1995 - 2001

Brother P.K. James  was the superior and Headmaster from 2001 to 2004. He introduced Vocational courses in the higher secondary sections. He too returned for the second time as a Principal in 2019 and retired from St. Pauls in 2023

Brother M.K Devassy became the Principal of St. Paul’s in 2004. This was the year when the Golden Jubilee of the school was celebrated. He also introduced the tradition of inviting silver Jubilarians of the past students on every Paulians Day function.

Brother M.S Kuriyan is now the serving Principal and Headmaster of St. Paul’s higher secondary school.
